The Acoustic Showcase

In 2009, in an effort to allow more people an opportunity to participate in the Festival, the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association introduced a new venue, the Acoustic Showcase.

The Acoustic Showcase is an all–acoustic, informal stage held in the lobby of the Tucson Museum of Art. Musical presentations of 15 minutes will play throughout the afternoon each day.

While all performers are welcome to fill empty slots, we give priority to musicians who do not have a chance to perform on one of the other Festival stages [1]. There is no sound system, just you and your instrument and an appreciative audience, hosted by a great selection of musicians. If you are interested in performing please check back here for contact information.

[1] For those who are curious about the criteria we used for inviting performers to the first Acoustic Showcase, organizer Steve Decker says,

“The Acoustic Showcase is intended to give more performers an opportunity to be a part of The Tucson Folk Festival. This is how we will accomplish that goal:

Schedule half of the time slots in advance, giving preference to players who did not perform on other stages in the Tucson Folk Festival.

Offer performance times to folks who replied to their festival communication that they were interested in this venue. Most of these slots are full now.

Leave about half the time slots unscheduled, so that people can walk up to The Acoustic Showcase and have a chance of performing.

Scheduled Acts must check in 15 minutes before their performance, and if they don't, someone else can perform in their place. If performers don't check in at least 15 minutes before their set, it will be available to anyone, whether they have played elsewhere on not, and the host will decide how to fill it.

People who are not performing on any other stage at the Tucson Folk Festival may come to the Acoustic Showcase when it starts each day and reserve any open slot for that day, first come first serve.”
